Salary: £35,000 per annum
Holiday: 30 days holiday plus bank holidays
Working days: A mixture of days and nights, mid-week and weekends
Make Shift designs, builds and manages new public destinations where communities, local entrepreneurs and independent, social businesses come together to work, learn, grow and collaborate. We make these spaces as affordable as possible, and we actively connect our members with each other and the community around them. So far, we have successfully turned three underused spaces into new destinations for local communities that now house independent and social businesses - Pop Brixton, Peckham Levels and Hackney Bridge – but we’re just getting started. Our ambition is to take our proven business model, scale it and turn more underused spaces into community destinations across the UK and beyond.
Pop Brixton aims to support local talent and enterprise and to create a real community asset for Brixton. We bring our members together with local people, businesses, groups, and schools to share the benefits of the space.
All our members are independent businesses, mostly drawn from the local area, and all of them participate in a structured scheme of community projects. Our scheme includes a series of initiatives offering free event space, training, education, and employment opportunities for Brixton’s residents.
We are a small team with a start-up mentality, where everyone goes beyond the call of duty to achieve our ambitious goals. Duties and Responsibilities:
Overseeing effective day-to-day management of the site
Implementing key procedures and policies on site and ensuring they are followed.
Ensuring the projects policies, procedures, health & safety documents, risk assessments and fire safety procedures are maintained and adhered to
Liaising with local police, fire and environmental health organisations
Enforcing licensing objectives across multiple traders on site.
Maintaining high standards for Health & Safety
Monitoring of cleanliness, security, footfall, music, lighting, temperature, customer behaviour and all other elements contributing to the atmosphere on site
Responsible for managing key contractor and third party teams on site, including cleaning and security.
Ensure the venue operations spending is within budget.
Increase operational efficiencies and suggest ways to save costs.
Ensure that the Venue Operations team is motivated and supported in their work.
Carefully plan and manage the capacity and workload of the team.
Ensure that the team is given opportunities to grow and develop in line with Make Shift’s learning and development policies.
Work with other managers to ensure departmental objectives and targets are met
Recruitment, line management, development and training of site team
Responsible for ensuring team, processes and services proactively support and champion diversity and inclusion - both internally and externally in services and relationships with customers and stakeholders.
Cross- department work
Working closely with the Membership department on areas such as Member management, Member engagement and Member support
Liaising with the commercial team for on boarding/off boarding new Members
Leading on repairs, maintenance and updates required to the site.
Ensuring all event operations on site are managed and delivered effectively, including event set up and pack down by the site team.
Organise and Involved in the organisation and facilitation of Monthly Member Town Hall meetings and Quarterly Report Member meetings.
Assist in providing relevant information for reporting purposes (i.e. Quarterly Reports).
Experienced in large venue and event management
Strong leadership skills, with ability to motivate and lead a team
Able to run a team rota and communicate effectively verbally and via email
Strong interpersonal management skills, including conflict management
Administrative skills including proficiency in Word, Excel and Google Drive
Basic building and maintenance knowledge
Proficient in training a team in all aspects of hospitality
Personal License Holder
SIA badge holder
First Aid trained
Fire Marshall trained
Health and Safety trained
3+ years senior management experience
1+ years experience managing a large scale venue or project
Key supplier and contractor management experience
Experience in recruitment, training and employee development
Proven ability in budget management and venue management
